Tampa, FL (Feb. 22, 2016) - Grandparents / Grandfriends Day was celebrated at Hillel Academy on Friday, February 12th. The grandparents were treated to a sit down breakfast served by parent volunteers. Tables were decorated in stars, stripes and American flags in keeping with this year’s Freedom theme.
Hillel students entertained the grandparents with many musical numbers; some were performed by grade level and some were performed by the entire student body. To begin the program the TK and kindergarten students led the group in singing the Star Spangled Banner and Hatikvah, the national anthems of the United States and Israel, and they led Ha’Motzi, the blessing said over bread or in this case, bagels.
After breakfast grandparents were invited to visit their grandchild(ren)’s classrooms to enjoy a family project creating a square to be used on a Hillel Academy quilt. They also used video prompts with questions about freedom in America to share information and spark discussion. The morning concluded with Shabbat services for primary, intermediate and middle school families.
Jennie Rothbaum and Sharon Greenfield co-chaired Grandparents Day for the third year in a row.
