Tampa, FL (May 16, 2016) - The 21st Annual Young Rembrandt Art Show award reception was held on Sunday, April 17th at the Hyde Park Art Center.  This year 147 works of art were entered by 75 artists ranging in age from five to fourteen.  It is a county wide show judged each year by an independent judge.

Tim Gibbons was this year’s judge.  He is a local Tampa artist who received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of West Florida.  Mayan and Aztec art are important themes Gibbons uses in his pen and ink, acrylic, oil, mixed media print and sculpture.  His art is exhibited through galleries throughout the United States.  Currently Mr. Gibbons manages art galleries in the Tampa Bay area and teaches in several art centers including the Hyde Park Art Center and the Life Enrichment Center.

As in past years, Kathy Durdin, Acting President of Tampa Regional Artists, and Margaret Hylton, Treasurer of Tampa Regional Artists, co-chaired the art contest.

Several Hillel Academy students entered their creations, many for the second or third year.  The students worked with Visual Arts Teacher, Debra Campbell, to create their art pieces.  Mrs. Campbell said, “ It was a very tough competition with very impressive entries.”

Head of School Amy Wasser added, “Congratulations to our winners.  We are very proud of all the entries and thrilled to see the development in the students’ talent.”
