Academics
Arts
Both visual and performing arts play an important role in our curriculum. Weekly art and music classes are integrated into our project-based learning. Music instruction includes vocal, percussion, chimes, and music history as well as preparing for major school performances. Our formal art program includes instruction in fiber arts, silk painting, clay, and drawing, as well as participation in programs that encourage artistic expression within social commentary.
Library
Hillel’s 10,000-volume library is the place for weekly lessons where the students listen to and discuss stories, write their own stories, and learn research skills. During recess, our library is busy with students who enjoy browsing or spending time with a good book in the comfortable reading area. Twice a year the Hillel library holds a week-long scholastic book fair, always very popular with students and parents alike. We are also very proud of the Pila-Reiber Holocaust Memorial library which holds books by Holocaust survivors and their children.
Extracurricular Activities
Hillel students are involved in many extracurricular activities. During the course of the school day, Middle School students can be involved in Student Government, Yearbook, and service to the school, as well as outside community service.
The Hillel campus is busy well beyond regular school hours, and after school clubs are enjoyed by many students from all divisions. The after school clubs vary and may include Tae Kwan Do, chess, art, dance, cooking, piano, photography, and various sports for all ages.
Extended Care
Our before and after care program allows children to be in our supervised care from 7:00 a.m. until 7:45 a.m., and from 3:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., when the school closes. There is an additional charge for this program and further information is available at the school office.
